The Swedish academic world offers many opportunities for the student who wishes to specialize in microbiology. Many of the universities and colleges have advanced courses focused on local microbiology specialties in addition to basic and advanced courses in "main stream" microbiology. AdMiCo (Advanced Microbiology Courses) is the name of a node on Mikrobiologi.net which presents collected information on specialized microbiology courses to students. AdMiCo is a service run jointly between several Swedish universities and colleges.
The main purpose of AdMiCo is to provide information about advanced and specialized courses in microbiology. This information is aimed to students who has passed all the basic courses in their education and who wish to complement their competence with courses that are not available at their home university. For example, maybe Stina, who has already taken all courses of interest at Lund University, wishes to spice her education with an advanced course that is only given at Göteborg University. In theory Stina can search for and apply to this course via the Studera.nu website, no matter which university she is studying at. The problem is that there are many universities, colleges and courses in Sweden which makes it hard to get an oversight of the range of courses. By gathering information of these specialized courses in advanced microbiology into one place, AdMiCo makes it easier for students like Stina to see which options are available. AdMiCo also gives teachers an excellent platform for reaching out to students with their unique courses.
