Welcome to the annual Microbiology Spring Meeting,
Uppsala, April 11-13, 2011!

Theme: Microbes – Friends and foes!

The Microbiology Spring Meeting in Uppsala is jointly organized by the three major Swedish microbiology societies FMM, RFM and SFM. This meeting will take place at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress and cover a broad range of topics related to medical microbiology, microbial evolution, molecular biology, epidemiology, food microbiology and applied biotechnology with the overall theme "Microbes – Friends and Foes".

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to a meeting with a high-level scientific programme and a friendly atmosphere. Please note that lectures will be mainly in Swedish, whereas specific sessions will be in English.

Badges
Each participant will receive a name badge upon registration. For security reasons all participants are requested to wear their badge during all Meeting activities and the social events.

Banks, Credit Cards and Currency Exchange
Banks are open between 09.30/10.00 and 15.00 on weekdays. Some banks in Uppsala are open from 09.00 to 17.00.
Major credit cards are accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops. It is advisable to carry an identity card or any form of photo identification.
The official currency is Swedish Krona (SEK). 1USD=6,54 SEK (26 January 2011), 1EUR=8,94 SEK (26 January, 2011). For money exchange, the companies "Forex" and "X-change" have offices at the airports and in the city. Climate and Dress
The weather in Uppsala at this time of the year is usually sunny with temperatures approximately 10-15 degrees Celsius; showers may occur.
Informal dress is recommended.

Electricity
Electrical current in Sweden is 220 V/50 Hz. Round, European-style two-pin plugs are used. Appliances designed to operate on 110/120 Volts need a voltage converter and a plug adapter.

Meals
Coffee and lunch are included in the registration fee and will be served daily.

Reception party on Monday night and Guided tour of Uppsala Cathedral and Conference dinner on Tuesday also included in full registration fee.

On-site Registration
The on-site registration will be open daily from April 11 at 12.00 and stay open throughout the Conference.

Passport, Visa and Invitation letter
Participants are advised to make their own arrangements with respect to entering Sweden.
Individuals requiring an official letter of invitation in order to obtain a visa and authorization to attend the Conference, should contact the Conference secretariat Mikrobiolog2011@congrex.com no later than 1 March, 2011. The invitation letter will be issued once the registration form and payment has been received by Congrex.

Time Zone
The time zone in Uppsala is GMT + 1 hour. Daylight Saving Time is used during the summer.

Travel

How to get to Uppsala Concert and Congress Hall
Uppsala Concert and Congress Hall, is located at Vaksala torg 1.

Local Transportation
From Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport, Stockholm: Bus 801 runs between Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport and Uppsala city. The bus runs 2-3 times every hour from 6 a.m. to midnight. The trip takes about 35 minutes. The price is SEK 100  and you buy the ticket from the driver. Only Swedish currency is accepted at the bus. More information: http://www.upplandslokaltrafik.se/

Trains leave Stockholm-Arlanda for Uppsala Central station directly from Sky City. You can buy tickets at the airport railway station. The price is about SEK 130. You can search for departures at http://www.sj.se/. The trip takes 15-20 minutes.

There are also several taxi companies operating from the airport. The ride takes about 30 minutes and costs approx. SEK 485. If you intend to take a taxi, we recommend you to agree a fare in advance. The international phone number to the largest taxi company in Uppsala is  +46  18  100  000  (Uppsala Taxi).

From Stockholm-Bromma Airport, Stockholm: The airport bus to and from Bromma airport connects with flight arrivals and departures.
Price, single ticket approx. SEK 60, return ticket approx. SEK 100. Bromma Airport is approximately a 15-minute drive from the City Terminal in the heart of Stockholm, but the drive may take longer depending on the traffic situation. From Stockholm we can recommend train to Uppsala. The price is approx. SEK 70 and depends on the time of the day. Trains leave for Uppsala twice every hour from about 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Stockholm-Uppsala takes about 40 minutes.

From Stockholm-Skavsta Airport, city of Nyköping: From Skavsta Airport there are flight shuttle buses that leave for Stockholm Central Station 30 minutes after every Ryan Air arrival. The trip takes approximately 80 minutes and cost approx. SEK 130 one way and approx. SEK 200 return ticket. (more information on http://www.flygbussarna.com).From Stockholm we can recommend train to Uppsala. The price is approx. SEK 60 but depends on the time of the day. Trains leave for Uppsala twice every hour from about 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Stockholm-Uppsala takes about 40 minutes.

From Stockholm-Västerås Airport, city of Västerås: From Västerås Airport, you can take local bus 941 to Västerås city and the Central railway and bus station. The ticket is about SEK 20, and the trip takes about 15 minutes. From the Central station, you can choose to take a train to Uppsala or regional bus number 804. Buses leave twice every hour from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and at least once every hour on Saturday and Sunday. The price is about SEK 30-60 and the trip from Västerås Central station to Uppsala Central station takes about 90 minutes.

In Uppsala almost all hotels, restaurants, cultural attractions and places of entertainment are within walking distance. There is an extensive network of local buses for travel within Uppsala.

VAT Refund Conditions
Swedish VAT, currently between 6% and 25% may be repaid to foreign enterprises, except banks and insurance companies, or companies providing health care or education.
